2010-11 Edmonton Oilers
The only good thing after finishing 27-47-8 in 2010 was the ability to draft the number one pick in the draft but first, on June 22nd, the franchise hired Tom Renney as the new head coach of the Oilers with Pat Quinn moving into the Senior Hockey Advisor position.
In the draft, the Oilers selected Taylor Hall with their first ever number overall pick. Hall, along with Jordan Eberle and Magnus Paajarvi, the future of the franchise looks bright indeed. The biggest issue may just be their age; Hall is 18, Paajarvi 19 and Eberle 20.
Hall, for one, is looking forward to joining his teammates. “I think a lot of people are certainly expecting me to make the team, and so am I,” Hall said. “But until I play that 10th game [and burn a year of junior eligibility], nothing’s for sure. I want to make sure I go in there with the best attitude I can, make sure I’m doing the right things and not only make the team, but be a big contributor. I want to be a go-to guy and someone they can rely on.”
